Four nights in Prague — Old Town Square + Astronomical Clock at the hour (every hour, the 12 apostles parade), Charles Bridge at sunrise (before the crowds), Prague Castle (largest ancient castle complex in the world, 70,000 sq m) with Saint Vitus Cathedral, Lesser Town and Lobkowicz Palace, Jewish Quarter (Josefov) with the Old-New Synagogue and the Old Jewish Cemetery, Mucha Museum, evening at a Pilsner Urquell beer hall like U Pinkasů. Day-trip to Kutná Hora — Sedlec Ossuary (40,000 human bones decorating the chapel, including a chandelier), Saint Barbara”s Cathedral (the UNESCO miner-built Gothic masterpiece). Bus south to Český Krumlov for one overnight — the medieval UNESCO town in the bend of the Vltava, Český Krumlov Castle + the painted Tower + the Baroque Theatre, raft on the Vltava through the centre. Train north to Karlovy Vary for one final night — the 13 healing-spring colonnades (Sadová, Mlýnská, Tržní, Vřídelní), the Becherovka liqueur distillery tour, Hotel Imperial cable car for the panoramic view, evening at a Karlovy Vary spa hotel.

September is the cusp — daytime 19 °C, the Prague Old Town tour-coach crowds have thinned out, and the Bohemian trees in the Šumava and Krkonoše are just starting to turn.
