Out of Hong Kong on a Friday night, Tirana by Saturday afternoon via Istanbul — Turkish, fifteen hours total. Six nights ahead through Albania — one in Tirana for the capital that emerged from 45 years of communist isolation in 1991, two in Berat "the city of a thousand windows" UNESCO, one in Gjirokastër "the city of stone" UNESCO, two final nights on the Albanian Riviera at Ksamil for the Greek-island-looking turquoise water. June is the cusp — daytime 26 °C, sea 22 °C, the Communist-era concrete bunkers in the countryside (some 173,000 of them) are finally Italian-tourist-discovered, and Albania''s mountain villages have not yet been over-discovered.

Six nights — one in the Tirana post-Communist capital, two in the Berat city-of-a-thousand-windows, one in the Gjirokastër stone city, two on the Albanian Riviera. The colour of Berat at sunset and the turquoise of Ksamil already half- remembered.
