Out of Hong Kong on a Friday night, Brussels by Saturday morning — Brussels Airlines or KLM via Amsterdam, twelve hours all in. Six nights ahead through Belgium — two in Brussels for the Grand Place and the EU quarter, two in Bruges (Brugge in Flemish) for the medieval canal city, one in Ghent (Gent) for the Van Eyck Mystic Lamb, one final night in Antwerp for the Rubens House + the diamond quarter. May is the cusp — bicycle weather without summer crowds, the Brussels Jazz Marathon in late May fills the squares, and the Flemish countryside is finally green again.

Final evening in Antwerp — frites with mayonnaise at Friterie Lola off Groenplaats, the Antwerp port view from the De Koninck rooftop bar. Train back to Brussels-Midi, NMBS to Zaventem, Brussels Airlines east via Vienna or onward direct. Hong Kong by Sunday morning. Six nights — two in the Grand Place quarter, two on the Bruges canals, one under Van Eyck''s gold panels, one in the Antwerp port. The smell of waffles and the colour of the Grand Place at golden hour already half-remembered.
