Out of Hong Kong on a Saturday morning, Copenhagen by Saturday afternoon — Cathay direct (resumed 2024), eleven hours over the Pole. Seven nights ahead through the kingdom — three in Copenhagen for Nyhavn and the Little Mermaid and the Tivoli, one on Møn for the white-chalk cliffs and the dark-sky reserve, two in Aarhus for the ARoS rainbow-panorama museum and the Old Town open-air, one final night up in Skagen at the northernmost tip of Jutland for the meeting of two seas. Late June is the cusp — Sankt Hans Aften midsummer eve June 23, 18 hours of daylight, the Tivoli summer season at full swing, the warmest water of the year in the Skagerrak, and Danish summer at its absolute peak before the August holidays.

Final lunch at Aamanns 1921 in central Copenhagen — smørrebrød (the Danish open-faced sandwich) on rye bread, paired with akvavit caraway-flavoured spirit and a Carlsberg pilsner. Metro to Kastrup, Cathay east to Hong Kong by Saturday morning. Seven nights — three on the Copenhagen Nyhavn canals, one on the Møn chalk cliffs, two in Aarhus, one at Skagen at the two-seas meeting. The colour of the Tivoli summer-evening lights and the silver of the Skagen sea already half-remembered.
